Legendary Guiness Book of World Records Irish Fiddler Frankie Gavin at Barking Legs
Born into a musical family in Corrandulla, County Galway, Frankie Gavin began playing tin whistle at age four before taking up flute and violin. At 17, he won both the All-Ireland Under-18 Fiddle and Flute competitions.
In the 1970s, Gavin co-founded De Dannan with guitarist and bouzouki player Alec Finn. The band toured internationally until the late 1990s. After the original group disbanded in the early 2000s, Gavin later formed Frankie Gavin and De Dannan, which continues to perform today.
Gavin’s solo career has included performances with Stéphane Grappelli, James Galway, Yehudi Menuhin and The Rolling Stones. He has played for four U.S. presidents: John F. Kennedy, when Gavin was a child, and later Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama. He has also performed for King Charles, then Prince Charles, and Prince Albert of Monaco.
